Staten Island University Hospital has commissioned Twine Architectural Studio to assist in the expansion and renovation of the existing Comprehensive Breast Center where patients can partake in multidisciplinary breast cancer treatment.  The goal of the Center is to provide the local community a place for total breast care – early assessment, detection, treatment and access to after-treatment services. Health and wellness programs including nutrition counseling, massage therapy, yoga and other spa-style treatments to help patients stay strong and confident will be available as well. 

The Director of the Comprehensive Breast Center, along with the staff, has developed a vision not only for the services provided but for the facility itself.  A spa-like setting is being developed that utilizes clean, modern lines intertwined with nature’s imagery creating a tranquil environment in which to provide and receive support.  The uses of glass mosaic tiles, wall reliefs and patterned glass, which invoke nature and healing, have been incorporated.  The play between light and dark surfaces, natural stone and wood, is a recurring theme throughout.  Hospitality-style furnishings have been selected to complete the transformation, in both the waiting/reception and in the on-site boutique - a place for access to post-treatment products and services.
